CHARSADDA: A man and his six-year-old son from Peshawar drowned in a canal in the Dheri Zardad area of Charsadda district on Saturday, officials and rescue sources said.

The deceased were identified as Gul Shad, a resident of Tehkal, Peshawar, and his son Ayan. They were visiting their relatives in Dheri Zardad when the incident occurred.

It was learnt that the child accidentally slipped into the water channel and, in an attempt to save his son, the man jumped into the canal. However, both were swept away by the strong current and drowned.

Upon receiving information, the Rescue 1122 water rescue team reached the spot and launched a search operation. After nearly half an hour of efforts, rescuers recovered both bodies from the canal and handed them over to the family after legal formalities.
