KARACHI: A young man drowned at a swimming pool off the Superhighway in Gadap Town on Friday evening, rescue officials said.

A police officer said some residents of Pakora Chowk in Baldia Town had gone on a picnic. They were swimming in the pool when 20-year-old Abdul Rehman’s condition deteriorated. His relatives took him out and shifted him in an ambulance from the farmhouse to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The deceased’s brother told police they did not want any legal proceedings.

The officer said apparently there were no signs of torture on the body.

In a separate incident on May 28, another young man drowned in a stream in the Manghopir area.

Rescue officials said Waqar Shah drowned while swimming in a stream near Noorani Hotel. Edhi volunteers recovered the body.
