CHARSADDA: Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Friday expressed concern over rising inflation and worsening law and order, saying that the burden on the common man continued to increase without meaningful relief.

Talking to reporters here, he extended Eid greetings to the nation and paid tribute to the armed forces, police, law enforcement agencies and civilians for their sacrifices in maintaining peace and stability in the country.

He said the sacrifices of martyrs for the nation would always be remembered.

Commenting on the economic situation, Sherpao said it would be unfair to attribute inflation solely to global factors, arguing that domestic policies had contributed to the current economic pressure.

He claimed that over the past two years, the government had collected nearly Rs2,700 billion in petroleum levy, a figure even higher than funds received under the International Monetary Fund programme.

According to him, repeated increases in electricity and petroleum prices, coupled with power outage had severely affected households across the country.

The QWP chief said both federal and provincial governments had failed to provide relief to the public. He stressed that it was the state’s responsibility to create an environment conducive to employment generation, investment and economic stability.

Referring to the law and order, Sherpao termed recent incidents in Bannu and Balochistan as deeply alarming, saying that the security situation was deteriorating while accountability remained unclear.

He said provincial governments were engaged in political activities and protests, while law enforcement agencies were under immense pressure.

He called for a unified national strategy involving all political and social stakeholders to effectively address terrorism and restore peace.

Sherpao also demanded a transparent and impartial investigation into the recent killing of Maulana Mohammad Idrees.

TWO KILLED: Two men were killed in separate firing incidents during Eid holidays in Charsadda district, police sources said.

The sources said the body of a man identified as Ali Rehman was found dumped in agricultural fields in the limits of Sardheri police station.

According to police, the victim had gone missing after leaving home for Isha prayers and did not return.

In a separate incident, a man identified as Muhammad Adil was shot dead inside his shop in the jurisdiction of Tangi police station.
