Teenage boy drowns in Jhelum river

MUZAFFARABAD: A teenage boy was swept away in the River Jhelum here on Friday, sparking a major search and rescue operation, officials said.

According to rescue sources, 14-year-old Nasim, son of Qalam Din, a resident of Neelum currently residing in the Naluchi area, fell into the fast-flowing river in the afternoon.

Eyewitnesses told authorities that the boy was quickly carried downstream by the strong currents.

Upon receiving information, teams from Rescue 1122 and the State Disaster Management Authority’s Water Rescue Unit rushed to the site and launched a joint search operation.

However, no breakthrough had been made till the filing of this report.
