PESHAWAR/MANSEHRA: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have chalked out a comprehensive security plan for Eidul Azha, with over 50,000 personnel to be deployed for security across the province, keeping in view the worsening law and order situation in the region.

Also, the department plans to adopt strict security arrangements for political and religious leadership, besides enhanced security arrangements being finalised for Chinese nationals.

The arrangements were discussed during a security review meeting chaired by the police chief Zulfiqar Hameed here on Monday.

According to a statement, IGP Hameed stated that protecting the lives and property of the public was the police’s primary responsibility.

“Given the current situation in the province, all regional and district police officers have been ordered to remain on high alert,” the KP police chief said.

He stated that the security of the Chinese nationals would be the police’s top priority, while security would remain on high alert on the China-Pakistan-Economic Corridor, besides other projects.

He added that tourist facilitation centres would be kept fully active for the convenience of tourists at tourist destinations across the province.

“Regional police officer, Dera Ismail Khan, has been tasked to coordinate with Balochistan authorities to create an integrated security system for the protection of officers who have been going on leave,” Mr Hameed said, adding that checkpoints using armoured personnel carriers and scanners would be ensured at public transport terminals, railway stations, and highways so that the public felt secure.

He said that personnel and volunteers would be deployed at mosques and Imambargahs, while the station house officer concerned would supervise the security arrangements.

The KP police chief ordered physical searches at the entrances of all mosques, Eidgahs, and Imambargahs, along with the deployment of security personnel on rooftops.

Meanwhile, over 10,000 policemen would be deployed for the safety of citizens and tourists across the Hazara division during Eidul Azha, a senior police official said on Monday.

“We have finalised a security plan for Eidul Azha and are going to deploy over 10,000 police personnel and establish 44 tourist facilitation centres in eight districts of the division,” DIG Nasir Mehmood Satti told reporters.

He said that police were expecting a huge influx of tourists during Eidul Azha and that extra precautionary measures were being put in place to ensure their safety.

“We are going to establish security control rooms in Mansehra, Torghar, Battagram, Kolai-Palas, Upper Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur and Lower Kohistan districts to monitor the law and order situation and ensure a swift response in case of any untoward incident,” Mr Satti said.

The DIG said that district police officers across the division had been directed to take additional precautions and deploy police personnel in and around mosques, Imambargahs, and other places of worship during Eid prayers.

He said that traffic wardens had been directed to welcome tourists warmly and guide them politely to their respective destinations.

“I have issued special directives to the DPOs across the division, asking them to ensure that traffic wardens do not fine tourists’ vehicles unless they commit a serious violation of the law,” Mr Satti said.
