Gold worth Rs30m, cash looted from four jewellery shops in Gulistan-i-Jauhar

KARACHI: Four armed robbers snatched gold worth over Rs30 million, Rs2 million cash, a cell phone and other valuables from four jewellery shops in a market near Jauhar Chowrangi in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, police said on Tuesday.

Sharea Faisal SHO Imtiaz Husain Shah said that the robbery incident took place on Monday evening and the police registered an FIR later on the complaint of Aijaz Husain, one of the robbery victims, and president of the jewellery shops association of the area.

The FIR was registered under Section 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The complainant said he has jewellery shops at Jauhar Chowrangi and is also the president of Sunar (jeweller) Market there.

On May 18, he went to offer Maghrib prayer when four armed robbers arrived at his son, Laraib’s, shop, which was closed. The robbers broke open the doors and took away gold ornaments worth Rs21,900,000 and Rs2 million cash.

The same robbers also barged into another jewellery shop at gunpoint, snatched gold jewellery worth Rs3 to 4 million from its owner Aziz Ahmed.

Later on, the same four robbers entered another shop owned by Sharjeel. The robbers snatched an iPhone from the shopkeeper. They rushed to another jewellery shop owned by Hameed whose employee Jamil was present there. The robbers snatched gold worth Rs7 million at gunpoint.

While fleeing, the suspects also resorted to firing, resultantly glasses of Laraib’s shop were broken, which caused injury to one suspect as blood stains were there.

The crime scene police collected the blood samples and three spent bullet casings were also recovered from the spot.
