QUETTA: The Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) on Friday condemned a joint raid by security forces on the home of its leader, alleging the operation was conducted without a warrant to harass and intimidate the party.

The party held a press conference to denounce the May 13 raid on the Khuzdar residence of Mir Abdul Rauf Mengal, a central party leader and former member of the National Assembly.

Sajid Tareen, the party’s central senior vice president, said the sanctity of the home was violated, causing harassment and fear among the family.

“We are political and democratic people who strictly follow the law,” Mr Tareen told reporters at the Quetta Press Club.

According to Tareen, a heavy contingent of Police, Frontier Corps, the Counter-Terrorism Department and the Anti-Terrorist Force entered Mengal’s home around 8am on May 13 without a search warrant.

He said the operation was led by a masked major. When Mengal asked to see a search warrant and questioned the reason for the raid, the officer refused to provide any justification, Mr Tareen said.

He asserted that the sole purpose of the “heinous action” was to harass, intimidate and create a climate of fear among the party leadership, its workers and their families. Tareen was joined at the press conference by other senior party leaders, including Central Information Secretary Agha Hassan Baloch and Musa Jan Baloch.
