SUKKUR: The Sindh High Court’s Sukkur bench has restrained an executive engineer in the Public Health Engineering Department from performing his duties, after it emerged the official was posted on an ‘own pay scale’ (OPS) basis.

A two-member bench, comprising Justice Amjad Ali Bohio and Justice Ali Haider ‘Ada’, issued the order after hearing a petition against Asad Ali Tunio, who was appointed as executive engineer (XEN) on an OPS basis.

The honorable bench suspended his appointment and issued a stay order on his official work until the next hearing on May 20.

The petition was filed by Sukkur-based political and social activist Ameer Bakhsh alias Mir Mahar through his counsel advocate Mohammad Khan Sangi.

The petitioner’s lawyer argued that Executive Engineer Hafeez Memon was removed a few days ago.

He further stated that while two senior officers were already present in the Public Health Engineering Department, a Grade 17 officer from Sujawal district was brought in and placed in a Grade 18 post on an OPS basis.

Advocate Khan Mohammad Sangi argued before the court that this act clearly demonstrates “mala fide” intent by the higher authorities.

Whereupon the court suspended the posting and issued a stay order, and also sought a clarification from the secretary of the Public Health Engineering Department regarding the OPS appointment and adjourned the hearing until May 20.
