SUKKUR: Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon on Tuesday inaugurated two new routes of the Peoples Bus Service (PBS) in Khairpur Mirs.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, he said that “the day marks an important and joyous occasion for the people of Khairpur”.

He stated that under the vision of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, President Asif Ali Zardari, MNA Faryal Talpur and Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the PBS is being launched to provide affordable and comfortable transportation facilities to people of the area.

He said that the PPP has carried out historic development works during every tenure of its government and completed record public welfare projects in villages, talukas and districts across Sindh.

He said that the Special Economic Zone in Khairpur district was established during the tenure of former CM Syed Qaim Ali Shah. The Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences — the only hospital in Pakistan providing lung and liver transplant facilities — is a matter of pride for the people of Khairpur.

He pointed out that under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the world’s largest free housing initiative has been launched, under which the Sindh government is providing free homes to 2.2 million families.

He added that Labor Cards for workers and Hari Cards for farmers have also been introduced to ensure welfare and financial support for these segments.

Mr Memon said that now two new routes of the PBS are being launched in Khairpur today.

“Despite rising global fuel prices, the Sindh government is providing modern air-conditioned buses to the public at subsidised fares,” he said, adding that the provincial government was paying part of each passenger’s fare to reduce financial burden on them.

He announced that additional buses would also be provided to Khairpur under the new transport scheme, while the Pink Bus Service and Pink Scooty Service would soon be introduced to facilitate women with safe and dignified transportation.

The senior minister further said that development works on water supply schemes, roads and other infrastructure projects were progressing rapidly throughout Sindh.

MNA Syeda Nafisa Shah Jilani, MNA Syed Javed Ali Shah, MPA Halar Khan Wassan, PPP Khairpur District President Nawab Khan Wassan and Deputy Commissioner Altaf Ahmed Chachar also addressed the ceremony.

Later, Sharjeel Inam Memon formally inaugurated the new PBS routes by cutting the ribbon at the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Bus Terminal.
