LAHORE: In a rare show of complete political unanimity, the Punjab Assembly on Monday passed a strongly worded resolution declaring that Pakistan had inflicted a “crushing defeat” on India in “Marka-i-Haq,” with lawmakers asserting that the enemy had been forced to “wave white flags” before the courage and strategy of Pakistan’s armed forces.

The resolution, moved by Punjab Finance and Parlia4mentary Affairs Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, marked the completion of one year of Marka-i-Haq and paid tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces, martyrs and veterans for what was described as a historic victory achieved through bravery, sacrifice and national unity.

According to the text read out in the House, the assembly congratulated Pakistan’s armed forces and other defence institutions on the success of the operation and praised the entire nation for standing shoulder to shoulder with the military during difficult times. The resolution stated that the victory in Marka-i-Haq was the result of not only the armed forces’ professional excellence and strategic planning but also the unprecedented unity demonstrated by religious scholars, media, civil society, minority communities and people belonging to all walks of life.

“The success of Marka-i-Haq is owed to the bravery of the armed forces and the spirit of national consensus and solidarity,” the resolution stated, adding that under the leadership of the field marshal, Pakistan’s forces had fully lived up to national expectations.

The resolution further claimed that when Pakistan delivered a crushing defeat to the enemy, India was compelled to start waving white flags. It declared that wars were fought through courage and determination rather than weapons alone and maintained that Pakistani soldiers embraced martyrdom with pride while the enemy feared death.

Lawmakers from the treasury benches praised the armed forces for safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and called Marka-i-Haq a defining moment in Pakistan’s military history. Treasury MPAs repeatedly thumped desks and raised slogans in support of the military during the session, which only discussed the Pakistan-India war.

Several treasury lawmakers said the operation had strengthened national morale and demonstrated that the Pakistani nation remained united in the face of external aggression. They maintained that no hostile design against Pakistan would ever be allowed to succeed and vowed that the nation would continue standing beside its armed forces.

Opposition members also supported the resolution and joined the House in paying tribute to the martyrs and veterans. They acknowledged the sacrifices rendered by the armed forces and expressed solidarity with soldiers defending the country’s borders.

However, opposition lawmakers also stressed that true national strength required democratic stability, political harmony and economic relief for ordinary citizens.

Some members called for promoting unity among state institutions and avoiding political polarisation in order to preserve the spirit of consensus witnessed during Marka-i-Haq.

The session concluded with the unanimous passage of the resolution amid loud slogans of “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Pak Fauj Paindabad,” while lawmakers offered prayers for the country’s security, stability and prosperity.
