Bodies of two women found hanging in separate incidents

BAHAWALPUR: Bodies of two women, including a 9th grade student, were found hanging from ceiling fans of their rooms in Bahawalpur and Lodhran districts on Monday.

In the first incident, the body of Esha, a class IX student, was found hanging in her house at Sial Colony in the limits of Ahmedpur East City Police Station in Bahawalpur district.

Her family told police that Esha had committed suicide. When city police rushed to the scene, her body was hanging from the ceiling fan.

The police officials sent her body to THQ Hospital Ahmedpur East for a post-mortem. The police are interrogating the family to ascertain the causes of the incident. Police officials said that legal action would be taken after the post-mortem report.

In the second incident, a housewife, Shehnaz Bibi, allegedly ended her life in her house at Chak 374/WB in tehsil Dunyapur of district Lodhran.

According to police sources, Shehnaz had a court marriage with Mehboob Alam about 1.5 years ago. On the day of occurrence, Shehnaz had an altercation with her husband over a mobile phone issue. Shehnaz went inside her room where she allegedly killed herself by hanging herself from the ceiling fan.

Police shifted her body to THQ Hospital Dunyapur for a post-mortem and took her husband Mehboob Alam in custody for interrogation.

BOOKED: Three suspects allegedly attempted to rape a 17-year-old boy after abducting him at Chak 251/ EB in the limits of Gaggoo Mandi Police Station in Vehari.

According to police, the suspects, one of them identified, abducted the teenager, son of a labourer, at gunpoint. Three suspects forcibly took him to a deserted house where they attempted to rape him and also recorded his video. But on the victim’s stiff resistance, the suspects tortured him severely and freed him when he made noise.

Gaggoo Mandi police, on the complaint of the victim and his father, registered a rape case against three suspects.

SUSPENDED: The Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) suspended three officials of Ahmedpur East in Bahawalpur district and Lodhran on charge of electricity theft and violation of safety SOPs.

According to a press release, meter reader/meter inspector Zia Khan was suspended from service for involvement in power theft and he was also transferred to the Head Rajkan office in Bahawalpur district.

In the second case, Mepco EXEN Qamar Zaman of Lodhran division suspended two officials, including line superintendent of Sui sub-division Abdul Aziz and acting lineman Tahir Mahmood for the violation of safety SOPs and transferred them to Lodhran office.

Meanwhile, Mepco disconnected the electricity connections of 15 defaulters and recovered Rs1.6 million from them in Mailsi sub-division of Vehari district.

DROWNING: A 15-year-old boy Rauf drowned in Abbasia Canal near Lalloowali Mori in Uch Sharif.

According to the deceased’s brother Zeeshan, who called Rescue 1122 Ahmedpur East, his brother was taking a bath in the canal when he drowned.

The rescuers reaching the scene launched a search operation, which was in progress till the filing of this report. The rescuers added that the canal was about seven feet deep and about sixty feet wide and search will take time.
