GEMSTONE EXPO

GEMSTONE EXPO: Pakistan’s decision to host its first International Gemstone Expo is a timely and promising initiative. Despite possessing vast reserves of precious stones, such as emerald, ruby and topaz, the sector has long remained underdeveloped and largely informal. Giving a structured global framework to the industry can attract foreign investment, improve quality standards and ensure transparency in trade. It also offers an opportunity to enhance exports, earn valuable foreign exchange, and generate employment. However, success will depend on consistent policies, modern mining practices, and strong regulatory oversight. If handled effectively, this initiative could transform a declining and overlooked sector into a significant contributor to the development of national economy.

OVERCROWDED HOSPITALS: As a student with clinical exposure, I have personally witnessed the worsening condition of overcrowded government hospitals. Patients lie on stretchers in corridors, or stand for hours in long queues, while overworked healthcare staff struggle to manage the burden. This not only affects the quality of care, but also increases the risk of medical errors and infections. One of the main reasons behind this crisis is the shortage of healthcare staff and limited hospital infrastructure. The authorities must take immediate and effective measures to improve hospital conditions, recruit more staff, and upgrade facilities. Public health should never be compromised.

PARK FOR FAMILIES: The park in Clifton’s Block V used to be a nice place for area residents. Families, especially women from the vicinity, used to go there for walking and jogging. Unfortunately, for the last many months, this park is less frequented as it is very dark after senset and full of stray dogs. The park can become a good facility again if the lights are replaced and something is urgently done to get rid of the stray dogs.
