Live-action Moana revealed at CinemaCon

Disney unveiled its live-action Moana at CinemaCon, with Dwayne Johnson returning as Maui and newcomer Catherine Laga’aia as Moana. Johnson spoke about his personal connection to the role, inspired by his grandfather and highlighted the importance of bringing Pacific Islander representation into live-action.

Laga’aia shared her excitement about joining a story she grew up watching. The trailer showed Moana’s journey, her first meeting with Maui and the duo setting out to “save the world.”

Described as a reimagining of the 2016 hit, the film follows the success of the original and its billion-dollar sequel. The film releases on July 10.

Marvel’s X-Men reboot gets new writers

Marvel Studios is moving forward with its X-Men reboot, bringing in Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo to work on the script alongside Michael Lesslie. The film will focus on both ideology and character-driven drama, staying true to the emotional depth of the comics.

Schreier cited Chris Claremont’s iconic 1975–1991 run as a major influence, known for shaping characters like Storm, Wolverine and Jean Grey and storylines such as The Dark Phoenix Saga. The film is expected to begin filming later this year, with casting news likely soon and a potential release targeted for 2028.

DC announces Supergirl art book

DC Comics has revealed a new art book, From Comic to Screen: The Art of Supergirl, celebrating Kara Zor-El’s journey from comics to film ahead of her upcoming DCU debut.

The 224-page collection explores the character’s evolution, featuring concept art, script pages and behind-the-scenes material. Written by James Field, the book also includes work from Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow creators Tom King, Bilquis Evely and Matheus Lopes, alongside insights from filmmakers.

Timed with the upcoming Supergirl film starring Milly Alcock, the book will be released on September 29, 2026.
