QUETTA: As many as 14 people, including a woman, were killed and 17 others injured in two separate traffic accidents in the Dalbandin area of Chagai district and Karezat area of Pishin district, Balochistan, late on Friday evening.

Police officials said a tragic accident occurred in the Dhandar Landhi area of Dalbandin, Chagai district, when a passenger pickup collided head-on with a loaded container, killing nine people on the spot, while another victim died later at the hospital.

Soon after receiving information about the accident, police and rescue workers rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and injured to Prince Fahad Hospital in Dalbandin.

“We received nine bodies and seven injured persons at the hospital. However, one injured person later succumbed to injuries during treatment,” said Dr Lanwang Khan, Medical Superintendent of Prince Fahad Hospital. He added that all 10 victims had sustained fatal injuries, while six injured persons were admitted to the hospital. According to him, the condition of some of the injured was serious.

“Most of the dead and injured are Afghan nationals who were travelling in the pickup to reach the Pak-Iran border before continuing their journey to European countries via Iran,” a police officer said, adding that an investigation was underway.

Meanwhile, in another traffic accident in Pishin district, four people, including a woman, were killed and 11 others injured.

According to police, 15 people were travelling in a long-body loader rickshaw when it reached near the Nana Sahib area of Khanozai tehsil. The vehicle reportedly fell into a deep roadside ditch after its brakes failed.
