MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission on Sunday constituted a special committee to improve the accuracy, transparency and accessibility of voter registration, deletion and correction in the preliminary electoral rolls.

Deputy Commissioner Bagh Asim Khalid Awan has been appointed chairman of the committee, while the commission’s secrecy officer, Raja Waseem Khan, will serve as its secretary.

The committee comprises Election Commissioner Raja Rashid Mahmood, assistant election commissioners Raja Nasir Rashid and Zeeshan Khalil, district election officers Usman Munir Sanwala (Bhimber) and Shaukat Aziz Banday (Haveli), and private secretary Syed Wajid-ul-Hasnain Kazmi. Assistant Commissioner Haveli Dr Mohammad Rashid and Local Government and Rural Development Department’s administrative officer Raja Mukhtar Hussain have also been included.

Under the chairman’s supervision, committee members will assist the public in their respective districts in the timely correction of errors in electoral rolls.

They will also oversee registration of new voters, transfer of votes and overall data verification to ensure that every eligible citizen is correctly registered at the appropriate location and that no voter is left out.
