TAXILA: Sessions courts in Taxila have awarded significant sentences to multiple convicts in separate cases involving murder, grievous bodily harm, and narcotics offences, handing down punishments including life imprisonment, rigorous jail terms, and fines exceeding Rs5 million.

In a high-profile murder case, a local court sentenced a key accused, Bilal, to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs300,000 after finding him guilty of killing a man during a violent clash.

The incident occurred on April 30, 2023, in the Muneerabad area within the jurisdiction of Wah Saddar police station.

According to the first information report (FIR) registered under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), the clash erupted during a reconciliatory meeting between two rival groups involved in a long-standing property dispute.

The situation escalated into an armed confrontation, resulting in the death of a man identified as Waqas, while several others sustained injuries, including one critically.

The court also sentenced another accused, Jibran, to five years’ imprisonment and imposed a compensation fine of Rs4,914,335 for causing the loss of an eye to one of the victims.

A third accused, Muhammad Azram, was fined Rs80,000 for his role in causing injuries.

In separate proceedings, a special court for the Control of Narcotic Substances (CNSA), presided over by Additional Sessions Judge Farhan Mudassar, sentenced two drug convicts to

nine years’ rigorous imprisonment each along with fines of Rs80,000.

One of the convicts, Hussain Nazir, a resident of HMC Colony, was found guilty in a narcotics case registered at Wah Cantt Police Station.

Court proceedings revealed that he is a habitual offender with a record of 14 criminal cases across various police stations in Rawalpindi and Attock districts, including prior convictions.

In another case, the same court awarded an identical sentence to Aliyan Ali, a resident of Sukho, after his involvement in narcotics-related offences was proven. Both convicts have been shifted to Adiala Jail to serve their sentences.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police in the New Airport Police Station limits arrested a suspect, Shakeel Ahmed, for allegedly harassing a 12-year-old girl in the Qutbal area. Police registered a case and initiated further investigation after taking the suspect into custody.
