LARKANA: A notorious dacoit with a recommended bounty of Rs10 million on his head was killed alongside an accomplice during a police encounter near Kashmore, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Fareed Mirani and his associate Bhooro Mirani, both of whom were wanted for a string of serious crimes across Sindh and Punjab, according to a spokesperson for the DIG Larkana.
Police acted on intelligence suggesting that armed suspects were lying in wait near Line Purani, within the jurisdiction of Kashmore Police Station, allegedly planning a robbery. Upon the arrival of the police team, the dacoits opened fire. Officers returned fire in self-defence, resulting in the deaths of both suspects. A Kalashnikov, a bulletproof jacket, and a pistol were recovered from the scene.
Fareed Mirani was wanted in connection with more than 37 criminal cases, including murder, attempted murder, child abduction, and attacks on police personnel. His record also included the killing of police officers, robberies on the Indus Highway, kidnapping for ransom, and extortion. The Sindh government had been formally advised to announce a reward of Rs1 crore for his capture.
