BAJAUR: Two persons were killed after unidentified assailants opened fire on them in Lowi Mamund tehsil of Bajaur district on Tuesday evening.

Police and residents said that the fatal shooting occurred in Kmar Sar Bazaar when the victims were about to leave the market after buying groceries.

They said that the deceased, identified as Mohammad Rasool and Inayat Khan, were critically injured in the assault and died before they could be taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A police official said that cops deployed at Kmar Sar Bazaar immediately rushed to the scene. However, he said the attackers had fled before personnel could reach the spot, adding that efforts were underway to hunt down the assailants.

The official further said that they had also launched an investigation into the incident to identify those involved.

Residents said both the deceased, who hailed from Lar Kmar village, were uncle and nephew. No one has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, which happened two days after the killing of Malik Fazal Wahid, an elder from War Mamund tehsil, by unknown assailants in Inayat Kallay Bazaar of Khar tehsil on Sunday afternoon.
