KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead in an “encounter” on Shaheed-i-Millat Road late Wednesday night, police said.

Ferozabad SHO Adeel Afzal said that the police party indicated pillion riders to stop for checking on Shaheed-i-Millat Road. Instead of obeying the signal, the suspects resorted to firing and in the ensuing exchange of fire, one suspect was killed while his associate fled.

Later, the killed suspect was identified as Usman alias Noorul Bashar.

The officer said that the police recovered weapons, a mobile phone, a motorcycle and snatched cash from his possession.

“The killed suspect had established a reign of terror in East and Korangi districts,” he said.

He added that seven FIRs had been registered against the suspect at different police stations.

Suspect arrested

Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a suspected robber in an injured condition after an alleged encounter.

The suspected robber had allegedly shot dead a citizen at Jauhar Mor the other day over resistance during mobile phone snatching.

Sharea Faisal police, acting on a tip-off, conducted an operation near Dalmia graveyard. On seeing the police, two armed suspects resorted to firing.
