Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for Iran’s National Security Committee, has told Al Jazeera Mubasher that Tehran will not impose fees on the passage of ships through the strait in a traditional manner.
Rezaei said that the Iranian parliament is currently preparing a draft law that would set fees related to “securing the strait”, adding that passage through the waterway would be exclusively through coordination with the Iranian authorities.
He said that hostile military vessels, especially from the US and Israel, would not be allowed to pass under any circumstances, while friendly vessels could pass in accordance with prior coordination with Iranian forces.
He added that Iran rejects any American role in managing or securing the strait.
