ISLAMABAD: Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam, accompanied by a high-level delegation, met JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday at the latter’s residence and discussed the implications of the recent US-Iran conflict.

According to a JUI-F spokesperson, a detailed meeting was held covering important issues, including the conflict in the Middle East, its wider effects and implications for the Muslim world at the international level.

The Iranian ambassador expressed his gratitude to the JUI-F chief for his stance on the Middle East conflict.

“I am grateful on behalf of the Iranian nation for your robust stance regarding the Iran-US conflict. The firm and balanced position of the Pakistani people, scholars, and various schools of thought is commendable,” he said.

“I thank the JUI-F [chief], Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and the people of Pakistan for supporting Iran against American aggression.”

Mr Rehman replied: “It is an honour for Pakistan to host negotiations between the United States and Iran. With hope for a ceasefire and a desire for lasting peace, the establishment of an Islamic bloc is our ultimate wish [and] it is a core part of the JUI-F manifesto.”

The JUI-F chief urged unity among Muslim countries to thwart the “nefarious designs” of the enemies of the Muslim Ummah.

The Maulana further stated: Every Muslim considers the protection of Baitul Muqaddas [Al Aqsa Mosque and its compound] and its liberation from occupation a fundamental duty.”

The Iranian ambassador said his country also considered the liberation of Baitul Muqaddas its duty.
