Peshawar Electric Supply Company consumers to face additional hours of outages

PESHAWAR: Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) has announced that consumers across its service region will face additional hours of electricity outages over the next few days due to a shortfall in power generation.

According to a statement issued here on Tuesday, the power utility said that, besides the already scheduled load management, consumers may experience an extra two to three hours of outages as and when required. The company described the measure as “forced load management,” necessitated by a significant decline in electricity generation.

Pesco attributed the situation primarily to the global economic crisis, which has resulted in a sharp increase in fuel prices as well as shortages. Since fuel remains a key input for electricity generation, the rising costs and limited availability have adversely affected the overall power supply.

The utility further stated that even feeders placed in categories 1, 2 and 3 — which are typically exempt from loadshedding and receive uninterrupted electricity — may also be subjected to two to three hours of outages during this period.

Pesco, however, assured consumers that the additional load management is a temporary measure and that normal power supply will be restored once electricity generation improves and demand and supply are brought back into balance across the region.
