KARACHI: Four people, including a 10-year-old boy, were run over and killed by heavy vehicles across the city, traffic police said on Tuesday.

They said that in Ibrahim Hyderi, a man, Mehboob Ahmed, was riding a motorcycle with his children when a recklessly driven motorbike suddenly appeared before him near the Benazir Chowk area.

As Ahmed applied the brakes, the motorcycle lost balance and his minor son, Abdul Musawar, fell onto the road. A truck (JZ-4464) coming from behind ran over him, leaving him critically injured. He was taken to Indus Hospital where he died during treatment.

In another incident, a recklessly driven truck claimed the life of a labourer at Fish Harbour.

Traffic police said that Abdul Majeed, 50, was working at Barf Khana in Ibrahim Hyderi when a truck (TAL-046) hit him. He sustained critical injuries and was taken to the JPMC where doctors pronounced him dead.

Earlier, two young sisters were killed by a heavy vehicle in Nazimabad late on Monday night.

Officials said the sisters were travelling on a motorcycle ridden by their underage brother on Hakim Ibn-i-Sina Road in Nazimabad-2.

According to the traffic police, ongoing road carpeting had left the surface rough and uneven. In addition, sewage on the left side of the road created hazardous conditions.

As a result, the motorcycle slipped, causing both women to fall onto the road and come under the tyres of an oil tanker approaching from behind. They were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital but died during treatment.

The victims were identified as Ester, 17, and Angel, 21.

Central SSP Dr Mohammed Imran Khan said the victims were sisters. The underage rider remained unharmed.

The oil tanker and its driver, Maroof Shah, have been taken into custody. The driver possessed a valid licence, and the vehicle’s tracking system was operational, the officer added.
