MARDAN: A woman, along with her two daughters, was shot dead while her two grandchildren were injured when assailants entered a house on Saturday night and opened fire on the inmates in the Qasimi area of the Katlang tehsil, the police said on Sunday.

The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Kharki police station. The deceased were identified as the wife and daughters of Mehboob Ali. Both daughters of the ill-fated person were married and had come to their parents’ home to celebrate Eid.

The officials of Rescue 1122 rushed to the spot after getting information about the tragic incident and shifted the injured children to a nearby hospital and then to Mardan Medical Hospital. The condition of the young girl was reported to be critical.

According to local and police sources, the incident appears to be the result of an old enmity. The attack occurred on Saturday night when unidentified assailants entered the house and opened indiscriminate fire on the inmates, causing the instant death of three women and serious injuries to two children.

A heavy contingent of the Kharki police station rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. Police officials said that they were collecting evidence from the site and were investigating the triple murder case from all angles.
