The Embassy of the United States in Islamabad on Sunday issued a security alert for US nationals in Pakistan in light of the security situation in the country, advising them to exercise caution and avoid frequenting public places unnecessarily.
“We are monitoring reports of ongoing demonstrations at the US Consulates General in Lahore and violent protests at the US Consulate General in Karachi, as well as calls for additional demonstrations at the US Embassy in Islamabad and the US Consulate General in Peshawar,” the mission said in a statement on X.
US government personnel have been directed to restrict their movements until further notice.
“We advise US citizens in Pakistan to monitor local news and observe good personal security practices, including being aware of your surroundings, avoiding large crowds, and ensuring your STEP registration is up to date,” the statement said.
“Due to protest activity around the US Consulates General in Karachi and Lahore, and the US Embassy in Islamabad, all appointments for US visas and American Citizen Services are cancelled for tomorrow, March 2,” it added.
