BAHAWALPUR: The Crime Control Department (CCD) claimed to have arrested an alleged criminal in injured condition after an encounter near the Northern Bypass of Bahawalpur city on Saturday.
According to CCD officials, on spotting two suspects on a motorcycle, a CCD patrolling team signalled them to stop. Instead, the motorcyclists allegedly opened fire on the CCD officials, who also retaliated in self defence.
CCD claimed that when the firing from both sides stopped, one suspect was found in injured condition with the firing of his own accomplice.
The injured suspect was identified as Fayyaz and illicit arms were also recovered from his possession. His armed accomplice managed to flee while firing on CCD officials towards the riverian area.
The CCD claimed that the injured suspect was involved in 35 cases at different police stations including Bahawalpur, Vehari and other areas.
CONVICTED: Two courts in Vehari districts sentenced two drug peddlers Muhammad Amir and Muhammad Islam to ten and nine years imprisonment along with fine of Rs125,000 and Rs80,000 respectively.
The respective police stations after recovery of narcotics and their arrests had submitted their challans in the courts.
FIRE: Three members of a family suffered serious burns in a fire which erupted in the kitchen of their house in Millat Colony of Bahawalpur city due to a gas leakage on Saturday.
Rescue 1122 shifted the injured family members identified as Sikandar (41) Sameena and Zahra (18) to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital after administering first aid.
Meanwhile, a youth identified as Abid (25) allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a pistol in his house in Basti Jamalpur near Hasilpur about 90kms from here on Saturday.
According to Rescue 1122, when the deceased brought a motorcycle his family members inquired about the bike. On this, he exchanged hot words with his family members.
They claimed that the youth in a fit of rage shot himself with a pistol and died on the spot.
Police reached the scene and shifted his body to the Hasilpur THQ Hospital for postmortem examination and legal procedure.
ARRESTED: The Burewala and Garha More police in Vehari district claimed to have arrested Ali Ahmed alias Akra and Muhammad Naveed for allegedly exhibiting arms and recovered pistols from their possession.
