BAJAUR: Two children and a woman were killed, and another woman was injured when a house collapsed in the Mamund tehsil of Bajaur district on Wednesday.

Residents and Rescue 1122 officials said the incident occurred in the hilly Niag Bara Banda area after a room of the house suddenly collapsed.

They told Dawn that three people, including the house owner’s mother and his two small daughters, died on the spot, while his wife was critically injured.

Soon after the incident, local people rushed to the scene and retrieved the deceased and the wounded from the debris. The injured woman was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital in Khar for medical aid.

Local people and a Rescue official told Dawn that the mud-built room that collapsed was in a dilapidated state due to recent rains in the region.

The tragic incident comes amid a severe spell of heavy rain and snowfall over the past month that has battered several districts across KP.

High-altitude areas in Mansehra, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, and Abbottabad have received heavy snowfall, resulting in road blockades, suspension of electricity supply, and disruption of daily life.

Authorities restricted tourist movement to Kaghan Valley, Shogran and other scenic spots due to harsh weather conditions.

Earlier in Bajaur, a 45-year-old woman died in Salarzai tehsil after the roof of her house collapsed due to heavy rainfall.

Persistent downpours and snowfall have weakened mud-built houses in remote areas, increasing the risk of similar incidents as residents struggle with harsh winter conditions.
