SAHIWAL: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed to have arrested a member of a banned outfit from the Wapda Grid Station at Yousafwala Road on Monday night.
CTD sources claimed suspect Bilal Ahmed, a resident of district Pishin in Balochistan, was a member of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). He was distributing hate material and other banned literature of the outfit, the sources claimed.
The CTD officials claimed to have recovered two dozen copies of the magazine Niday Haq and stickers belonging to the banned outfit. CTD Under Officer Waseem Akhtar said that they conducted raids based on received information and conducted a raid at Yousafwala. A case was registered against Bilal Ahmed under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) on the complaint of Waseem Akhtar.
Sources told Dawn that an anti-terrorist court (ATC) special judge had granted seven days physical remand of the suspect to the CTD and ordered to present the suspect on February 17.
Meanwhile, an ATC special judge awarded ten-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs100,000 to one Muhammad Abu Bakar, a resident of Choghata, Bahawalnagar, for distributing sectarian literature of the banned outfit Sipah-e-Sahaba in Sahiwal.
Abu Bakar was arrested by the CTD on July 21, 2015 near the main gate of Al-Haseeb Town on Arifwala Road following a tip-off.
CTD officials recovered 18 booklets, handbills, and pamphlets spreading hate material against a particular sect. A case was registered under various sections of the ATA on the complaint of Sahiwal CTD Under Officer Azhar Hayat.
ENCOUNTER: The Chichawatni Saddar Police claimed to have arrested an alleged drug peddler in injured condition after an encounter near village 38/12-L on Monday night.
According to the police, on a tip-off that drug trafficker Abdul Malik Jutt was delivering narcotics to various areas, police conducted a raid and intercepted him along with two accomplices at 38 Pulli. Police claimed the suspects opened fire and the shootout lasted around 15 minutes.
Police claimed that eventually, Abdul Malik, a resident of 111/7-R Chichawatni, was arrested in an injured condition, while his companions managed to escape. Police claimed to have recovered hashish, cash, a 30-bore pistol, and two mobile phones from the site.
A case had been registered against the suspect on the complaint of SI Mudasir Ghaffar of the Chichawatni Saddar Police.
