QUETTA: The Balochistan government has launched a three-day policy dialogue on countering violent extremism (CVE) in the provincial capital bringing together policymakers, security officials, experts and civil society representatives.
The provincial home department has arranged the event to address challenges of extremism.
The inaugural session was addressed by the adviser to the Chief Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Meena Majeed, DIG of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Aitzaz Ahmed Goraya, Chief Coordination Officer of CVE Dr Dost Muhammad Baloch, Dr Asmatullah, Israr Ahmed Madani, Iftikhar Firdous and Fahad Nabeel.
Speaking on the occasion, provincial adviser Meena Majeed said the Balochistan government is working on a youth policy aimed at economic the well-being of young people. She said the government has launched the Youth Socio-Economic Development Programme to empower the youth and protect them from baseless and negative propaganda.
She said a Youth Resource Centre has also been established to provide career counselling to young people to enable them to make informed decisions about their future.
Highlighting the potential of Balochistan’s youth, the adviser said the government is providing structured training programmes to harness their abilities and is facilitating overseas employment opportunities for 30,000 trained youth.
She further said the government plans to equip young people with digital skills and provide laptops to help them earn livelihood online. In addition, football and cricket tournaments are being organised in the province to encourage youth participation in sports activities.
She said that the provincial government has restored ghost schools to ensure access to education for the younger generation.
