UPPER SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: On the special directives of the deputy commissioner Upper South Waziristan, Asmatullah Wazir, the assistant commissioner of Ladha Shadman Safi carried out a detailed inspection of Sam Market on Saturday in the wake of heavy snowfall, which has disrupted normal life in the region. He also raised concerns over possible price manipulation and shortage of essential commodities.

The visit aimed to assess the availability, quality, pricing and hygiene standards of food items in the local market, while ensuring the protection of public interest during harsh winter conditions. Officials said the inspection was part of broader efforts by the district administration to provide relief to residents affected by severe weather and to prevent exploitation of consumers.

According to district administration report, recent snowfall has adversely affected daily life in several parts of Upper South Waziristan, as the supply chains were partially disrupted, leading to abnormal increase in prices of essential food items including vegetables, fruits, wheat flour, sugar, cooking oil, rice and other household necessities.

In response, the assistant commissioner accompanied by members of the administrative team conducted a surprise check of shops, general stores, vegetable and fruit vendors and grocery outlets operating in Sam Market.

During the inspection, strict instructions were issued to shopkeepers to adhere to officially notified price lists. He made it clear that profiteering, hoarding or overcharging would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
