On chilly winter mornings, nothing’s as comforting as a warm mug of hot chocolate. A little citrus twist can bring this festive drink to the next level.

This orange hot chocolate recipe combines winter’s two staples, hot chocolate and oranges, to give you a drink equally decadent and flavourful.

Made with simple ingredients, a cup of this hot cocoa is the cosy hug you need to get out of bed or stay in it as you watch your favourite show.

The rich chocolate flavour pairs well with the gentle notes of citrus, resulting in a creamy drink that’s not too sweet. This recipe makes two portions, perfect to share with a loved one.

Ingredients

• 2 cups (500ml) milk

• 2 tbsp cocoa powder

• 2 tbsp sugar

• ¼ cup (50g) chocolate chips

• ¼ cup (60ml) orange juice

• ½ tsp orange zest

• 1 tsp cinnamon powder

Method

In a pot, whisk milk, cocoa powder and sugar.

Heat gently until it’s hot. Add chocolate chips and stir until it melts.

Turn the heat to low, add orange zest and cinnamon powder. Let it simmer while stirring.

Remove from heat and add orange juice. Pour into your favourite cup, top with marshmallows and enjoy.
