We all have experienced a situation where, in the middle of a conversation, someone suddenly corrects our pronunciation of a certain word. No doubt, reading improves our vocabulary, but it doesn’t give us information on how those words are pronounced correctly.

So if you are struggling to know the right pronunciation of some words, YouGlish comes in handy by showing you how native speakers actually pronounce those words.

So when you open the site, you’ll see a search box, in which you can type any word or phrase and press, “search.” The website then fetches a random short YouTube video clip in which that word is spoken. The video usually starts right before the word is said, so you hear it in a real sentence.

You can also see text captions showing the same sentence where the word was spoken in the video. This helps one read and hear at the same time. Furthermore, you can play or pause and go back a few seconds if you want to hear the word again. You can also control speed by slowing down or speeding it up and if not, you can skip the current video and jump to another with the same word.

The website lets you narrow results by accent, too. For example, after searching an English word, you can select from US, UK or AUS so you can hear how Americans, Brits or Australians say it.

The website gives you the option to sign up and search for unlimited words but if you choose not to, the free version will give you a daily limit. Once you hit that limit, you either wait until the next day to search again or upgrade to premium. The website isn’t ad-free either, so you’ll see ads on the main page.

Apart from that, the website gets the job done without costing you anything.
