KARACHI, Oct 17: A special cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Governor Muhammedmian Soomro here on Wednesday reviewed the arrangements for transparent collection of revenue and to make it free from malpractices.

On this occasion, various decisions were taken which included computerisation of revenue record, expeditious completion of record of “fouti khata” as per directives of the President, training of revenue staff, completion and supply of pass books within 15 days.

The meeting was attended by Provincial Ministers, Chief Secretary Javed Ashraf Hussain, Principal Secretary, Brig (Retd) Akhtar Zamin, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Manzoor Bhutto, Secretary Finance, Fazlur Rehman, Secretary Law, Ghulam Nabi Shah, President Chamber of Agriculture, Syed Qamaruzzaman Shah and other officials.

Manzoor Ahmed Bhutto, Haji Haroon and Nisar Ahmed Siddiqi, briefed the cabinet about various aspects of the matter under discussion.

The meeting decided to reorganise and activate the tapedar training college so as to impart appropriate training to tapedars. It was decided to bring the syllabus in conformity with the modern day needs with the incorporation of subjects of English, mathematics, accounting, survey and map reading, revenue laws, computer, religion and morality.

While the governor stressed on computerisation at every level, the cabinet decided that accounting and recovery systems would be computerised and crop inspection would be made public-friendly.

The Software experts briefed the meeting about their recommendations regarding computerisation.

It was decided to initially start computerisation programme as pilot project in Sukkur, Hyderabad and Larkana. It would later cover the whole of the province.

It was observed that computerisation will help achieve the objectives of automation of revenue collection, expeditious disposal of matters, correct data about cultivable land and rectification of records.

The cabinet decided for simplification of record and reduction in the number of forms with regard to collection of revenue and compilation of record.

It also decided to make the monitoring and implementation procedure more effective for the attainment of desired objectives. For this purpose, a system for regular monitoring at every level was devised besides posting of special staff in this regard.

Meanwhile, the governor has called upon the people to evolve a positive way to highlight their point of view rather than resorting to destruction of government and private properties causing loss of human life.

According to a press release issued here Wednesday, the governor is in constant touch with local Nazim, Naib Nazim and administration in Jacobabad and expressed his satisfaction over measures taken for improvement of law and order situation and protection of life and property of citizens.

He also expressed his grief over loss of life and injuries the other day and instructed the local administration to maintain liaison with local citizens and provide relief to people affected during recent mishap in Jacobabad.—PPI/APP
