KARACHI: A shopkeeper was shot dead by robbers in Orangi Town on Saturday evening, police said.

The Iqbal Market police said that two armed robbers arrived at a gas cylinder filling shop in Khalil Market, held the shopkeeper at gunpoint and demanded cash.

The shopkeeper, identified as Noor Alam, 35, put up resistance and one of the robbers shot him. Despite being serious wounded, the shopkeeper grabbed the robber’s pistol and shot him. His accomplice managed to escape.

Area people rushed to the scene and shifted both shopkeeper and the robber to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.

The police said that the shopkeeper died during treatment.

The wounded suspect was identified as Abdul Rahim and the police said he had past criminal record as he was arrested in connection with murder and robbery cases.
