TOBA TEK SINGH: Several villages in Jhang district have been submerged by the Chenab waters and the district administration has issued an emergency warning and called in the Pakistan Army to help evacuate residents from low-lying areas.

All government employees have had their leaves cancelled to ensure an uninterrupted response, says a press release.

Officials have set up 18 flood relief camps in Jhang district, with Rescue 1122 deploying boats and medical teams to 20 vulnerable locations. Relief camps have also been established in Faisalabad and Toba Tek Singh, providing food, water and essential supplies for people and their livestock. Officials have urged the public to evacuate immediately.

A team of senior officials, including Commissioner Maryam Khan and Brigadier Muhammad Iftikhar of the Pakistan Army, visited affected areas to inspect preparations. They also reviewed flood protection measures and instructed local authorities to ensure the safety of residents. They also inspected the Chenab’s spurs in Shah Jewana and Chund Bharwana areas.

In a bid to mitigate the risk of further flooding, local officials were directed to clear blockages from the gates of the Ravi bridge on the Kamalia-Chichawatni Road.

The police spokesperson for Jhang confirmed that as many as 1,358 people and nearly 1,392 animals have been safely relocated from several villages. With more water expected from Balloki Headworks, officials continue to monitor the situation closely and are ready to respond to any further emergencies.
