KOHAT: A young man was killed when a policeman opened fire on his car near the Pakistan-Japan Friendship tunnel here over the former’s failure to stop at a checkpost.
The family reported the incident to the SHO of the Saddar police station and district police officer Dr Zahidullah Khan, who ordered the registration of an FIR against the policeman. The police later put the cop in the lockup.
The accompanying women insisted that Naseebullah stopped the car near a policeman to show him a doctor’s prescription but another police official fired gunshots at the car from behind over the driver’s failure to stop at the checkpost.
They said they’re returning from Peshawar after getting an ailing child examined.
The deceased belonged to Shadikhel village, while the family lives in Kohat’s KDA Township.
It was the second such case in a month’s time. Earlier, a policeman fired at a car that stopped a few yards away from the Teri police station.
A murder case was registered against the policeman, who was later arrested and sent to prison.
HELD: A sub-registrar and a computer operator of the revenue department were arrested on Thursday after an anti-corruption department’s inquiry found them involved in a fake land transfer.
A resident had reported the matter to the department, which found the allegation of his land’s illegal registration to be correct.
Sub-registrar Ishfaq Khattak, computer operators Mohammad Yousuf and Farooq Zeb, patwari Fareed Gul and resident Wazir Khan were later booked for the fraud. However, only the sub-registrar and computer operator Zeb were held.
Meanwhile, 200 patwaris were transferred through a draw for the first time in the history of Kohat.
An official told Dawn that the patwaris wanted posting in areas of their choosing and approached high-ups but the latter decided to hold a draw for it.
