KARACHI: A suspected robber was gunned down by a citizen on Shahrah-i-Pakistan in the small hours of Wednesday morning, police said.

Azizabad SHO Waqar Kaiser told Dawn that the citizen, identified as Shaharyar, closed his spare parts shop at the Water Pump market at around 1:15am and was on his way home on a motorcycle. When he reached near Ayesha Manzil flyover, armed robbers intercepted him. However, he didn’t stop, and when the robbers tried to stop him forcibly, he fell but pulled out his licensed pistol and fired shots.

As a result, one suspect, later identified as Mohammed Raja, 30, suffered a bullet wound in the chest and died on the spot. His accomplice managed to escape from the scene, leaving behind their bike, the SHO said, adding that the recovered motorcycle was stolen.

He said the killed suspect was arrested several times in several cases pertaining to robberies, encounter with police, possession of illegal weapons, bike lifting, etc. A pistol and a cell phone were also recovered from custody of the deceased.

The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
