Mattel has launched the first-ever Barbie doll with Type 1 diabetes, aiming to expand representation and raise awareness. Developed in collaboration with Breakthrough T1D, the doll features a continuous glucose monitor, insulin pump, and diabetes-themed accessories, including a blue polka-dot outfit representing diabetes awareness.

Krista Berger, Barbie’s SVP, said the launch helps children see themselves in their toys and fosters empathy. Type 1 diabetes advocate Robin Arzón and model Lila Moss were honoured with one-of-a-kind dolls for their advocacy.

The new doll is part of the 2025 Barbie Fashionistas line, now available on Mattel’s website and in stores.

The 1990 live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film is heading back to cinemas for its 35th anniversary — and due to overwhelming fan demand, the limited run has been extended from two days to five. The special event, hosted by Fathom Events, will now run from August 16 to 20.

Screenings will include a new trailer and a behind-the-scenes documentary, Turtles Unmasked, featuring never-before-seen footage and commentary from director Steve Barron. The original film, a surprise box office smash grossing over $202 million, remains a beloved pop culture milestone.

Cineverse has announced Air Bud Returns, the sixth film in the beloved franchise, will hit theatres in summer 2026. Returning to his basketball roots, the golden retriever Buddy will once again take centre stage — this time after a 12-year-old finds old Air Bud VHS tapes in his late father’s home and names his dog after the film hero.

Robert Vince, who helmed most of the original Air Bud and Air Buddies films, returns to write and direct. This marks the first Air Bud film since 2003, with Cineverse and Air Bud Entertainment planning more sequels. The human cast has yet to be announced.
