KARACHI: Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of Shadab Football Ground in Gulberg Town, which would be built in six months at the cost of Rs196 million.
Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, Parliamentary leader in the City Council, Karamullah Waqasi, Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad, other elected representatives and a large number of citizens were also present on the occasion.
The project covers an area of 16,510 square meters, with 10,400 square meters dedicated solely to the football ground, while the remaining 6,100 square meters includes a park and an Eidgah area. The restoration work is being carried out swiftly by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) in collaboration with the Katchi Abadi and Land Department (KALC).
During a briefing at the ceremony, the mayor was informed that the newly renovated football ground will be equipped with modern facilities, including pavilions, stores, a sewage system, toilets, children’s swings, lighting, seating arrangements, green belts, and walking tracks for women and senior citizens. Under the project, 10,320 square metres of grass have already been planted, along with 134 trees, 183 shrubs/plants, and 70 ground cover plants.
Addressing the ceremony, Mayor Wahab said that this project is a serious and long-lasting effort to encourage the youth of the city towards sports.
The mayor stated that the ground has been used by the public for sports and as an Eidgah. Unfortunately, however, its condition had deteriorated, but efforts are being made to improve it, he said.
