LAHORE: A station house officer (SHO) and five other police officials were suspended on corruption charges here on Sunday.

Action was initiated against Defence B SHO (sub-inspector) Ali Hassan and other policemen in the light of an inquiry report wherein allegations of manipulating the recovery items proved true.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran delegated the powers to ASP Syeda Sheharbano Naqvi to announce the punishment of suspension by making a call on 15 to keep in the official record that the department would show zero tolerance towards corruption and misuse of authority.

Quoting the charges, an official said the SHO and other officials of the same police station including ASIs Javed Iqbal, Ghazanfar Iqbal, and constables Ibrar, Shahbaz and Tahir had allegedly manipulated the recovery items.

He said it was reported that the recovery items including cash belonged to a Chinese citizen which were looted by a suspected criminal.

As the complaint came to the notice of the DIG Operations, he issued directions to Defence Circle Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sheharbano Naqvi to hold a detailed inquiry into the allegations.

During inquiry, it appeared that the SHO had committed the same violations many times in the past, the official said, adding that the SDPO expanded the scope of investigations and compiled a detailed report, holding SI Ali Hassan and other employees guilty of the serious charges.

The DIG Operations expressed his utter displeasure and issued directions to award major punishment to the guilty police officials.

Following the order, the department issued suspension orders of all the police officials, including the Defence B SHO.
