ISLAMABAD: An aid flight carrying 100 tonnes of relief items for Palestinians departed from the Islamabad International Airport on Sunday.

The flight carrying food items and medicines will land in Amman, Jordan, for the onward delivery of relief goods to Palestinians besieged in Gaza where Israel has imposed a near-total aid blockade.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik attended the departure ceremony as special guests.

The consignment includes 65 tonnes of canned food, 20 tonnes of dry and infant milk, 5 tonnes of biscuits and 10 tonnes of medicines, according to a statement issued by the PM Office.

NDMA will send 200 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Palestine via special chartered flights.

So far, Pakistan has dispatched 17 consignments with 1,715 tonnes of aid.

The initiative, undertaken on the directives of the prime minister, reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued commitment to supporting the Palestinian people.

The Palestinian Ambassador also expressed his gratitude and thanked the people of Pakistan for supporting the war-ravaged people of Gaza and Palestine in these difficult times, the PM Office added.
