NEW DELHI: The Prime Ministers of Pakistan and Bharat, Mr Liaquat Ali Khan and Pandit Nehru, grappled with the most outstanding Pakistan-Bharat problem — Kashmir ... when they met in conference with Sir Owen Dixon, United Nations Representative here this afternoon [July 20]. The conference began at 4 p.m. at Government House and ended after two and a half hours’ cordial ... discussions between the two Prime Ministers and Sir Owen Dixon.

After the progress made in today’s tripartite parleys, they have decided to continue the discussions tomorrow morning... . An authoritative source described today’s talks as “preliminary”.

The discussions, it is reliably understood, covered the Kashmir question. The two Prime Ministers, it is learnt, discussed the Kashmir problem in the light of the Security Council’s latest Resolution on Kashmir. The last Resolution of the Security Council, under which Sir Owen Dixon was appointed United Nations Representative, authorises him to help Pakistan and Bharat reach an agreement on the demilitarisation of the state and to implement this agreement.
