Asafe space is basically a sanctuary, a physical environment or surrounding where someone feels relaxed, comforted, and free from any kind of judgement, and respected. A safe space can also be a person or even a spot in your home, a therapy session, or anywhere you find shelter and solace in times of distress.
The luckiest among us are those who have a friend or family member as their safe space, with whom they can share anything without the fear of judgement, because they know that they will just listen to them wholeheartedly and will never use any of their secrets as weapons or break their trust.
They know that they can be themselves and show their heart to those special ones when they feel anxious or depressed, when they are in a state of vulnerability—the ones we call crying but end up laughing with. Such people genuinely hear without making any assumptions or judgement about them or the situation, will always guide them to do the right, support them at any cost, and correct them in private.
They are the people who always support without any hope for return, like a strong pillar or a shade in the scorching heat of life. Being around them feels like a warm hug. To have someone this true is a blessing in disguise, which people nowadays take for granted and usually don’t appreciate enough.
We should try our best to be a safe space for others, especially for our close ones, because we don’t always know what people are going through in their lives and what battles they are fighting in silence. So just try to be kind and humble, always be careful with your words, for you never know what act of yours can help them get over their hard time, can bring a smile to their face, or, in contrast, push them into more darkness. So just look around yourself, take good care of your loved ones, and always be there for them. Always remember that the people who are generous and kind to others are closer to Almighty Allah and will be rewarded for this on the Day of Judgment.
A person who offers others a sense of a safe space is like a medicine that heals.
Some people find their safe space in their room or in any hobby which helps to distract them from gloomy thoughts or takes them to a world of imagination where everything is fine and happy. These hobbies or places give them such comfort that they forget all their worries. A person can reflect on their thoughts and grow on an entirely different level when surrounded by such interpersonal space. A safe space also offers a person the opportunity to develop resilience, self-control, self-confidence, and courage to face challenges in life.
There is a famous quote that says, “A safe space is not a luxury, it’s a necessity for the soul to nurture.”
