LARKANA: Armed assailants gunned down their maternal uncle and his wife admitted to orthopedic ward in the Chandka Medical College Hospital (City Block) and left another patient wounded in a brazen attack on the healthcare facility early on Thursday morning.

Police officials said that the attack was offshoot of a running dispute over a piece of land between Muhammad Yousuf Mugheri, 43, a resident of Lal Dino Mugheri village, and his brother.

The victim’s wife, Rehana Mugheri, who was under treatment at the ward with bone injuries, returned fire at the assailants with her husband’s pistol and left one of the attackers, Najib Mugheri, severely injured, said the officials.

They said the attackers, who were nephews of late Yousuf Mugheri, later shot at and killed Rehana as well and injured Sajida Shaikh, a patient admitted to the same ward, before fleeing.

Police shifted the bodies and the injured to the Trauma Centre.

Sodhal Mugheri, father of Rehana, said that five years back his daughter had contracted a free-will marriage with Yusuf Mugehri and this attack had been staged by You suf’s nephews to avenge it.
