HYDERABAD: An ex-convict axed his 50-year-old wife to death and was himself mercilessly beaten till death by the woman’s relatives in a village near Husri town, Hyderabad district, on Saturday, said police officials.

Husri SHO Juman Khoso said that Ali Nawaz Panhwar killed his wife, Safiya, over some domestic issue. Neighbours claimed that Ali Nawaz was violent person, who used to beat his wife habitually over petty issues, he said.

The beatings had become a matter of daily routine and “even neighbours had given up intervening [between them] to resolve their disputes,” said the SHO.

Police had reportedly detained some suspects but not filed any FIR as the woman’s heirs were busy in funeral.

He said that soon after Ali Nawaz murdered his wife, family members of the victim beat him to death. Ali Nawaz used axe and sticks in the wife’s murder before he was himself mercilessly killed, he said.

The SHO said that according to Safiya’s family members, Ali Nawaz had in the past murdered two men, Vikiyo Panhwar and Latif Panhwar, and served jail terms for the crimes.
