ISLAMABAD: A teenage youth drowned in a seasonal pond located in a rural area of the capital on Saturday, police said.

The boy was identified as Zulqarnain Faqeer, 19, a resident of E-16/1. He had come to his aunt’s house, located in the same sector, from where he went to the seasonal pond to swim.

According to police, he jumped into the water and did not resurface. Others present near the pond attempted to locate him in the water and later informed the police.

The police reached the spot and launched a search operation. His body was later found at the bottom of the pond.

The body was retrieved and shifted to a hospital for legal formalities.

Police said it was a seasonal pond formed due to the accumulation of rainwater. Apparently, he got stuck in the quagmire at the bottom and drowned.

Meanwhile, the body of a 22-year-old, Mohammad Mohsin, who had drowned in Korang Nullah on July 9, was found in the Chontra area.

His body was recovered from the Soan River. Chontra police retrieved the body and shifted it to a hospital for identification.

After receiving information, the capital police also reached the hospital. The deceased was later identified as Mohsin, through a ring on one of his fingers.

Mohsin, the son of a retired army official, worked at a call centre located in the Gulberg Green area.

Police said the incident occurred when he was returning home on a motorcycle from the office. On his way, he reached Korang Nullah at Sharifabad, which was overflowing and had risen to bridge level.

Motorists were waiting at both ends of the nullah for the water level to recede.

However, Mohsin attempted to cross the bridge and was swept away by a gush of water along with his motorcycle.
