LONDON: “What perhaps is the source of greatest satisfaction to us is … that Pakistan is politically and financially the most stable country in Asia and more than many countries in Europe. [Meanwhile, as reported by a correspondent in Karachi,] the need of co-operation between Pakistan and Bharat for the joint defence of this sub-continent was emphasised by Field Marshall Sir William Slim, Chief of the Imperial General Staff … in Karachi on Tuesday (July 11). He suggested that the two countries enter into a defensive [combine] like the West European powers. … Slim said … if Pakistan and Bharat made up their minds to settle their differences … they “can come to an agreement.” …
