KARACHI: The 21st Westbury National Tennis Championship continued on Thursday at the Karachi Club, with main draw action commencing in the men’s singles, ladies Singles and Under-14 singles categories.

In the men’s first round, Bilal Soomro dominated Farman Ali 8-0, while Ruhab Faisal defeated Muhammad Umer Haider 8-0. Raahim Veqar beat Danish Waheed 8-1 and Taimoor Ansari overcame Vinod Das 8-1.

The only close match was between Yasir Fazli and Faiz Ilyas, in which the former advanced with a 8-6 victory.

The women’s first round saw Mahwish Faisal deliver a commanding 8-0 win against Aisha Yousuf. Talat Idrees also won 8-0 over Areeba and Fiza M Hasan routed Aiman 8-1.Under-14 singles main draw first round results featured Yahya Bin Zain defeating Mohammad Arbi 4-0, 4-0. Meer Abbas Bhagat beat Qazi Ahyan Babar 4-0, 4-1. Umer Zaman edged out Hamdan Noman in a closely contested match, 4-2, 0-4, 7-5. Aahil Imran defeated Tariq Rafi 5-3, 4-1, while Aidh Imran downed Osama Ali 4-0, 4-1. Afaan crushed M. Azhar 4-0, 4-0 and M Usman Haider won against Maier Anas 5-3, 4-2.
