Every once in a while, we stumble upon a website that isn’t just educational or entertaining, but it’s both, in fact so much more. It wraps curiosity, fun and learning into one magical place and that’s not something we come across every day. That’s exactly how I felt when I unintentionally opened https://www.amnh.org/explore/ology — a site that’s sure to make your vacation full of fun!
Once you open the OLogy website by the American Museum of Natural History, you are not going anywhere, so caution is advised!
As we all know that the word ‘ology’ itself means ‘the study of,’ here also, kids are invited to dive into different branches of science —the mysteries of astronomy, the world of marine biology, the wonders of dinosaurs, the vital importance of climate science and much more. Each topic isn’t just a dull list of facts; it’s turned into a mini-adventure, and when I say adventure, I literally mean adventure! Because you can find stories, videos, games, DIY experiments, quizzes and even interviews with scientists, in the respective branches of science that you are exploring.
Navigation on the site is simple and easy, even for a five-year-old. You can find a straightforward menu bar at the top of each page, offering options to jump between ‘Explore,’ ‘Hands-on,’ and ‘Meet the OLogists.’ ‘Explore’ lets you choose a scientific field, ‘Hands-on’ gathers all the interactive activities and experiments in one place and ‘Meet the Ologists’ offers real-world insight through interviews with scientists.
There’s no strict path to follow, you can roam around the site so freely that it will feel like you are in your own home, chasing whatever catches your eye! It’s as fabulous as it sounds.
Without a doubt, the AMNH’s OLogy website is an excellent all-in-one platform for learning and exploration. Whether you are obsessed with dinosaurs, fascinated by space or curious about how climate change is reshaping our world, there’s something here to offer you.
