LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday sought proposals regarding relocation of animals, including dogs and cats, from Tollinton Market.
Earlier, a court-made environmental commission submitted a report on the sale and purchase of animals in Tollinton Market.
Justice Shahid Karim observed that animal rights were important and needed to be protected.
The judge directed the petitioner to hold a meeting with the environmental commission to prepare proposals for the protection of animals.
The judge also barred the petitioner from posting about the animals in Tollinton Market on social media. The petitioner pleaded that the market had been renovated significantly, but the condition of the animals were still kept in small boxes by the traders.
The judge adjourned the hearing till June 20 and directed the petitioner and the commission to come up with suggestions on the matter.
